Zur Vernissage der Ausstellung von Karimah Ashadu und Petrit Halilaj – forward/backward

am Samstag, den 24.Mai 2025 von 16.00 bis 18.00 Uhr laden wir Sie recht herzlich ein.

Es werden Werke aus der Sammlung gezeigt.

 

Karimah Ashadu (geb. 1985 in London) ist eine in Großbritannien geborene nigerianische Künstlerin und Filmregisseurin,
die zwischen Hamburg und Lagos lebt und arbeitet. In Ihrer Arbeit beschäftigt Sie sich mit Arbeit, Patriarchat und Unabhängigkeitsvorstellungen im sozioökonomischen und soziokulturellen Kontext Nigerias und seiner Diaspora.

Ihre Arbeiten wurden international ausgestellt und präsentiert, darunter auf der 60.Biennale von Venedig, wo Sie mit dem Silbernen Löwen als vielversprechende junge Künstlerin ausgezeichnet wurde.                

Im Oktober finden im Camden Arts Centre in London eine Einzelausstellung und aktuell Ausstellungen bei Canal Projects

und im MoMA PS1 in New York statt.

Ihre Arbeiten wurden in der Tate Modern in London, der Secession in Wien, der Kunsthalle Bremen, dem Kunstverein in Hamburg,

der South London Gallery in London, dem Museum of Modern Art in New York und dem Centre d´Art Contemporain in Genf gezeigt.

 

Petrit Halilaj (geb. 1986 in Kosterrc, Kosovo) versteht Ausstellungen als Möglichkeit, den Verlauf persönlicher und kollektiver Geschichten zu verändern und komplexe Welten zu schaffen, die Raum für Freiheit, Sehnsucht, Intimität und Identität beanspruchen. Seine Arbeit ist eng mit der jüngeren Geschichte seines Heimatlandes

Kosovo und den Folgen der kulturellen und politischen Spannungen in der Region verbunden, die er oft als Ausgangspunkt für die

Entwicklung einer gegenläufigen Poetik für die Zukunft nutzt.

Seine Arbeiten übertragen persönliche Beziehungen, Orte und Menschen in skulpturale Formen. Halilajs Praxis kann als spielerischer und mitunter respektloser Versuch verstanden werden, sich repressiver Politik und gesellschaftlichen Normen zu widersetzen.

Petrit Halilaj präsentiert im September 2025 seine große Einzelausstellung im Hamburger Bahnhof –

Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart in Berlin.

Im April 2024 präsentierte Halilaj eine ortsspezifische Installation für den Met Rooftop Garden in New York.

Seine Arbeiten wurden u.a. im Tamayo Museum Mexiko, Fries Museum Leeuwarden, Tate St. Ives, Palacio de Cristal Museo Reina Sofia Madrid, New Museum New York, Hammer Museum Los Angeles, Pirelli Hangar Bicocca Mailand, Kunsthalle St. Gallen, WIELS Brüssel ausgestellt. Halilaj vertrat den Kosovo 2013 in seinem ersten Pavillon auf der 55. Biennale von Venedig.

Karimah Ashadu (born 1985 in London) is a British-born Nigerian artist and Film Director living and working between Hamburg and Lagos. Ashadu´s practice is concerned with labor, patriarchy, and notions of pertaining independence in the socio-economic

and socio-cultural context of Nigeria and its diaspora.

Her work has been exhibited and screened of internationally, including at the 60th Venice Biennale, where she was awarded
the Silver Lion for a Promising Young Artist.

Karimah Ashadu’s first institutional solo exhibition in the UK at Camden Art Center will open in October. Currently, her work is
on view at Canal Projects and MoMA PS1 in New York. 

Her work has been shown at the Tate Modern in London, the Secession in Vienna, the Kunsthalle Bremen, the Kunstverein in Hamburg, the South London Gallery in London, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Centre d'Art Contemporain
in Geneva.

 

Petrit Halilaj (born 1986 in Kosterrc, Kosovo) understands exhibitions as a way to alter the course of personal and collective histories, creating complex worlds that claim space for freedom, desire intimacy, and identity. His work is deeply connected to the recent history of his native country Kosovo and the consequences of cultural and political tensions in the region, which he often uses as a starting point for igniting a countercurrent poetics for the future.

His works transposes personal relationships, places, and people into sculptural forms. Halilaj's practice can be seen as a playful and at times irreverent attempt to resist oppressive politics and social norms.

Petrit Halilaj will present his major solo exhibition at Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart in Berlin
in September 2025.

In April 2024, Halilaj presented a site-specific installation for the Met Rooftop Garden in New York.
